Transcatheter Heart Valve Intervention Program

Established in 1994 and led by Professor Jeng Wei, the Heart Center of Cheng Hsin is proud of having a strong heart team of cardiac surgeons and cardiologists, sparing no efforts to improve the quality of medical services and to develop the level of the professional competences. Over the past two decades, we have been putting into resources to upgrade surgical and medical equipment and dedicated to provide sophisticated, highly-effective techniques and treatments, including the transcatheter heart  valve interventions.

01

Study Objective

1. Heart team approach, including patient selection and screening.
2. Pre-procedural planning, including device selection and sizing, etc.
3. Vascular access: Transfemoral and alternative accesses.
4. TAVR, MitraClip, and other transcathter procedures.
5. Intra-operative monitoring.
6. Trouble-shooting and management of complications.
7. Post-operative care and follow-up.

02

Related Skills / Surgical Technique

1. Heart team approach for THVI.
2. Transfemoral and/or transapical TAVR procedures with balloon-expandable (Edwards Sapien 3) and/or self-expanding (Medtronic Evolut-R or Abbott Portico) devices.
3. Transfemoral MitraClip (Abbott) procedure.
4. Trouble-shooting and management of complications.

Achievements
• Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) was introduced in Taiwan in 2012. Nowadays, our team has performed more than 800 cases of transcatheter heart valve interventions (THVI), including TAVR, MitraClip, etc., in addition to conventional valve surgeries and has become one of the largest THVI centers in Asia. In general, the procedural success rate at out institution is > 98%.
• Our research team has published extensively in the fields of transcatheter heart valve interventions, cardiac surgery, heart failure, coronary artery disease, and echocardiography. More than 200 publications have been published in peer-reviewed high-ranking SCI journals.
• We have trained more than 100 surgeons, cardiologist, technicians, and nurses all over the world.
